My Last Climb and Repel

img Mountain Climb140

A two hundred and fifty foot climb and repel. One of the things that I had to give up for marriage….she said it was too dangerous. Well I was working in a prison at the time, and I would think that to be even more dangerous. Oh well….I thank the Lord for being loved by such a caring Person.

People often ask me what I got out of mountain climbing and why I miss it so much. Well… I used to climb trees when I was a kid, (the higher the better) and I got a surge that ran through my body as the wind blew in my ears. The surge became stronger as I reached the top. It was so powerful that it made me sleepy at times (I’ve fallen asleep in many a tree when I was a child). I enjoyed looking down on the houses and buildings but the joy was in the climb. It’s hard to explain, but every limb felt as if it was an accomplishment.

When it comes to mountain climbing (which I truly love although I’ve only climbed a few times as the practice was put to an end by my significant other) it’s a whole new ball game. When climbing a mountain, every decision counts. The mere reality of the phrase “point of no return” sets in. While climbing, I would come to an agreement with myself that there was no ground; only the sky. However, I would always look down after I was about 50 meters from the top. And that was where the effect of the beauty would set in.

Let it be known that I am a God fearing man, and looking down on trees that were thirty (30) to fifty (50) meters high as if they were bushes gave me a perspective as to how small I am to God. Looking down on a small portion of his glory made a tear fall from my eye. Then there are the people whom you meet. Those were some of the most interesting and friendly people I’ve ever met. Some of them were down right lovable.

I never consider myself an outdoors-men, I’m merely a person who enjoys the outdoors and what it has to offer. We all came from nature, therefore we change when we are in nature. The world and all of its troubles don’t seem to matter as much out there. I was focused on the climb and learning from those who are true climbers and outdoors-men.

Viking River Cruises

viking longship

The Viking Embla Longship is a company that Cruises Europe.  Personally, I have never had big interest in Europe, but the Embla longship has amazing features which arose my curiosity. Staterooms and suites with a view from your bed; and this is the same for every room. The suites have a library, a coffee station and more. The food comes from the herb garden on the deck. Watch the video and enjoy.

The following is the company’s website.
